For this installment of the Vault, we take a look at the wierd and wonderful ways Sega tried to sell us product in the UK. The Mega CD concept commercial alone is worth the price of admission.
By the 1940’s Wrestling was well established as both a sport and a product of entertainment thanks to stars like Frank Gotch and Georg Hackenschmidt. Attendance records had been broken and barriers had been broken down. But during this decade there was also World War 2. As with most forms of sport, the war hit the world of wrestling hard, with many completely closing down their promotions, never to be revived. A ban on large public gathering in the United States didn’t help either as promoters who decided to put on shows had no way of performing in front of a reasonable number of spectators. It was definitely a tough time for the industry, as it was for many others.
In 1997, 20th Century Fox made the decision to continue with their most well known and lucrative franchise, the Alien saga. World famous, insanely popular, and highly influential. The Alien series is adored worldwide by millions of fans, and so the sound of $$$$ was just too much for the suits to ignore.
Alien: Resurrection was released to mixed and some fairly positive reviews, but over time it has become the outside runt of the litter.
