Readers of all ages are sure to have their own favourite Rickman performance: younger readers may know him as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series of film adaptations.
Others will remember him as the incomparable villain Hans Gruber in the 1988 action classic, Die Hard. Still others may think of his tender performance in the British drama Truly, Madly, Deeply, or his wonderfully broad, boo-hiss bad guy the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves.
Then there's his hysterical, scene-stealing character Alexander Dane in the sci-fi comedy, Galaxy Quest.
A versatile and charismatic in all his roles, from his theatre work to big-budget movies, Rickman was a true great. His passing after a battle with cancer leaves a huge hole in both the stage and film industries. But what an incredible body of work he’s left behind.
Mr Rickman, you'll be dearly missed.
