Welcome to Kimia Room 113 Devastation Part 4, Hook

The Devastation continues this week with the perfectionist of the group, will this be a perfect review? Far from it my friends but I'll give it my best shot.
So this week we're talking about Hook.
Picture
He transforms from a crane truck to a robot. He also forms Devastators upper chest and head.
Just like the rest of his team he is cast in green and purple.
Picture
In his crane truck mode Hook is pretty good. Much like the rest of the team his alt mode isn't anything special. It's got some nicely sculpted detail on show and it nicely resembles his original G1 look. The crane arm moves up and down but that's about it. The arm doesn't extend, despite the fact it looks like it should, and Hooks hook hasn't got any kind of articulation. If you want a crane arm that extends go look up Perfect Effects upgrade set, they've got you covered.
It's something that would've been cool to have but I understand why they didn't do it. This was another thing that was probably cut due to budgeting. If they'd released Hook as a solo figure it might have been on there.
The crane also doesn't turn, because of how Hook transforms they couldn't have done it without ruining the look of the vehicle.

Transforming Hook is relatively simple and when you're done you get a pretty good robot mode. He's got some nicely sculpted chest details which have been picked out in paint. Mine also has a "special" addition of a broken clip from Long Haul stuck in his chest.
Picture
I'm not going to be able to get it out of there without damaging the toy so it has to stay on there for now.
Hook has a really nice sculpt for his head, it's a perfect representation of the G1 cartoon look, I really like it. Mine also has a unique nose,
Picture
There's a little "scar" on the nose that must have happened during the molding phase. It's been painted silver and I think it adds some character to the face.
Hook shares Mixmasters arm problem. To much upper arm and not enough forearm, yet again I feel like it could've been fixed, with how Hook connects to Long Haul though it might have made it more complicated, I class this as another "for the sake of the combined form" issues.
Picture
The lower body of Hook has some decent articulation and even features ankle tilts, you can get some decent poses out of them. There is the problem of the crane arm, because of the weight and the length of the arm it can cause problems. If you want Hook to stand up straight he's only going to do it because of that crane arm, it kinda sucks that you have to use it for a standing pose.

Weapon wise Hook usually gets left with the wing/blade chest pieces. It's down to the fact that everyone else has a weapon I like them with, most of the time he only gets one and I store the other on Long Haul. I do kinda wish he had a better weapon but I don't fancy buying the gun set from Perfect Effect just to arm him.
I like the robot mode it's not perfect but much like the rest of the set I'm willing to forgive a lot on the individual bot modes.
Over all Hook isn't a bad figure, he suffers because of his need to combine but then who in this box set hasn't sacrificed something for the greater good that is Devastator.

So that's the main body parts done, now I've just got the arms left to do so the question for next week is, left or right?

When not watching people in spandex fight each other he paints miniatures, go HERE to take a look
