Jump this way to listen in! The age of the man toy is upon us, and to be honest, has been for a while. Swarms of grown ups pushing middle age live in lairs that are saturated with display cabinets full of what 'normal' people would call 'Toys'. Indeed, in the age of the geek, adult friendly names such as collectables, action figures, statues, and models flood the internet, as grown ass men litter their homes with these objects like a badge of honour. Quite right too!
It doesn't take a psychiatrist to realise that the urge to collect toys comes from childhood, and for us who are floating dubiously around the 35-45 year old mark, there were many toy manufacturers in the late 70's/early 80's. The most famous of these were of course Hasbro who created the Transformers and Mattel, the Masters (HA!) of the He-Man series of toys. However, one of the the most famous, and cross media, companies was probably Kenner. For this second of the new Lurkers episodes, Andy and Gruff grab The Curious George to discuss Dreams In The Witch House, and Lovecraft in general. Jump this way to listen in Alarms are sounded across the land! The Overwatch Collector's Edition has broken its chains and is rampaging through the wilderness with wild abandon! Oh woe; only ace box-wrangler The Bard can save us now! It's High Noo-aurgh!
By Alan Stares The Sacred Armour Of Antiriad is a 1986 game by Palace Software, a British games company who were noted for their releases which usually featured something a little different such as ‘Cauldron’ and the brilliantly pervy box of ‘Barbarian’ featuring a scantily clad Maria Whittaker and oiled up Wolf from Gladiators. The game is a side scrolling adventure/performer in which you play Tal, a Savage member of a post apocalyptic tribe of humans sent to find ancient armour to defeat the hoards of aliens who have appeared out of a volcano. The Armour is actually a radiation suit built by us in the present civilisation but has passed into myth after the horror of nuclear war and the destruction of technological documents. The name ‘Antiriad’ being a mis-reading of Anti-Rad or Anti-Radiation by the tribesmen elders. The first of two new Lurkers in The Lobbys drags itself up into your eyeview and earholes.
