EX-RENTAL REVIEWS - Haibane Renmei (2002)

Haibane Renmei (2002) is a 13 episode series written by Yoshitoshi ABe. Previously ABe worked on character design for Serial Experiments Lain and NieA_7. During this time he produced a self-published manga (dōjinshi) about a group of angel like youths with wings and halos. After some revisions this short manga was retooled into an anime. Haibane Renmei has all the emotions of a fully lived life in microcosm. It can make you feel sadness and joy simultaneously in a tightly wrapped bundle.

Sean "Cosmic Duck" Robertson has....look. Just look at the picture. Thats all you really need to know. Sriously. They say a picture is worth a thousand words....and this is that picture.

Needlessy to say, Sean is awesome.

EX-RENTAL REVIEWS: A TREE OF PALME by Sami Sadek

Not a 90's Anime however this needs to be brought to attention. What would you get if you took Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio and set it in a Post Apocalyptic setting and made an Anime out of it, basically this except the problems with this movie isn't the very creative idea. It's the way the story is told alongside this idea and how much opportunity gets wasted and the flaws to this project really stand out in a terrible way. This movie has been something I have watched more than once recently and one I have tried to analyze in more detail and just to see how much of this really doesn't work and much alot of it does.

Years ago I came across this in the anime section of a Science Fiction DK Encyclopedia, now until most recently I've finally watched it and for what it is it's a surprising and sadly very obscure movie that deserves more than what attention it gets.
