Welcome to Kimia, room 113 review Darkstream and Razorbeam

A great wrestling entrance theme once said “No chance, that's what ya' got!” and no chance is exactly what this weeks PCC had. Why do I own it? Why am I reviewing it? Well it's what I do.
This week will be a short review apart from the rant mid way through the review. Yes I am pre warning you that there will be an angry rant in this review.
So shall we get this over with?

Wave 3 continued the “trend” from the previous Wave by having more Decepticons than Autobots. It feels right the 'Cons always should have more combiners!

Darkstream is a repaint of Wave 1's Skyburst so he's a Decepticon stealth jet. He uses the same grey plastic, in places off set with some nice red plastic and some paint apps in orange and bronze. I like the metallic pinky/purple they used to pick out his cockpit. No problems here.

As a robot he has a splash of purple on his chest, his face has some silver parts picked out as well as some black. All in all he looks OK.

He's got the same shallow hand holes but more on those later....

Darkstream doesn't have a front facing Power-Linx peg so you can't use any of the Mini-Cons as chest armour, again more on that later....

As a torso he's OK, sharing the same flaws as Skyburst. The paint apps on the face work nicely and do enough to not look exactly the same as his Wave 1 predecessor.

I don't usually have Darkstream paired with any set of limbs but I've used the Wave 3 Destron drones/limbs for the purposes for these photos.

The third party sets don't do anything different from Skyburst, nothing to say here so look at the pictures to from you own opinion.

Razorbeam is a clear blue version of Chopster, one of my favourite Mini-Cons. He has some details picked out in silver. He's OK.
Picture
Razorbeam is utterly wasted on Darkstream. You can use his gun mode on the back of the jet, you use the armour mode but it will only sit on Darkstreams back. Because he has no forward facing Mini-Con peg any armour connection will be wedged onto his back. So OK that's not terrible, Razorbeam is kinda usable.....
Picture
His axe mode however is completely and UTTERLY wasted. Let me explain.

Picture
Razorbeam's handle has a 4mm post at the bottom which then leads to a 5mm post. Darkstream only has 5mm holes. 5Mm holes which only have a certain depth. Just enough depth to render Darkstream utterly unable to hold Razorbeam in his axe mode.

What? WHAT?! SERIOUSLY?! No maybe I'm wrong. I'll check again because surely that wouldn't do that...

NO, WAIT I WAS RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!

I remember when I got this figure and tried pegging the axe in and was sorely disappointed. They could've used either of the other Wave 1 Mini-Cons and they would've worked better! Sure having a crane arm on the back of a jet would've looked stupid but at least you could have had Darkstream holding a gun! Even Caliburst with his “I'm just a robot lying down” gun mode would've worked better. Why? Why oh why did they pair these two up?! Was it a case of “We got the other two sorted out, just put these left overs together.” Sure somebody probably didn't look at these two and go “yeah we shouldn't do this, he'll never hold that axe”
Someone must have known about it because none of the official pictures of Razorbeam show him as an axe. It's like they're politely asking us to forget he has an axe mode. It's kind of hard to do due to the fact he has two giant blades, with the edges picked out in silver paint no less, attached to his legs! Is Darkstream supposed to cut people with his elaborate back pack armour?!
I could fix this, I could take the 4mm peg off the bottom and that would make it usable but I don't really want to do that. I don't know why but that's how it is.
Darkstream also transforms into the gun emplacement that Chopster does.

Picture
He mounts on the top of Darkstream it looks OK just don't expect it to fly any time soon.

Are we done here?! Yes! Good! I'm gonna go do something fun and wash the awfulness of this tag team out of my head.
Next week Steelshot and Beacon.
