In this instalment in the smashmouth Toygrind series, the Mighty Thew looks at the relatively normal looking Xenomorph creature in Kenner's Operation: Aliens toy series, based on the aborted ill-advised cartoon series. What did the bearded one think of this strange entry into a children's toy tie-in franchise to a movie no child should ever watch, but did anyway? Click on to find out.....
Why did this toyline exist? PROFIT! *ahem* Well, just like G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K. and the Transformers, a mass media strategy was conceived to promote the toys: a TV show would be created for the kids, which in turn would help promote the toys (which were based on the designs created for the cartoon), to cut a long story short: toys came out, cartoon never surfaced outside of a short (and now vanished bar a few stills) promo. A comic book was also released with the cartoon designs, as well as an arcade game, based on the offshoot Alien Vs Predator toyline. Here's a short gallery showing off the toys, the comic book and the cancelled show...
Finally, here's a commercial of the toyline. Thank you yet again to Thew for allowing us to share his Toygrind reviews on the website. Check out his Youtube channel on the button below this video, and stay tuned for the next Grind!
